What is the Lyons Hockey Club?
We were formed by individuals who shared an interest in building skills, playing, and supporting the sport of hockey in the greater St. Louis area. Members have access to weekly skill building practices with certified coaches, scrimmages, exhibition games (aka friendlies), and tournament opportunities.
The Lyons Hockey Club is for every level of player. From new players that are still learning the game to established players that want a fun and lowkey atmosphere. All are welcome here.
What gear do I need to get started?
Most gear can be obtained from PlayitAgain sports used. New gear can be found at Pure Hockey. Lyons players also have extra gear and are willing to lend it out. The staff at both PlayitAgain and Pure Hockey will be able to help you make sure things fit correctly.
You’ll need:
- Skates (Can be rented at the rink)
- Helmet
- Ice Hockey Pants
- Chest Protector
- Elbow Pads
- Shin Guards
- Hockey Socks
- Jill (essentially a cup but also helps keep your socks up)
- Stick
- Gear bag
What is the cost to drop in?
Your first practice is free. Drop in fee for practice is $25. Players that know they’re going to attend most or all practices can pay in advance for a discounted price. The cost of games and WCHL participation will vary.

What is the WCHL team?
A subset of members of the Lyons Hockey Club participate in the Women’s Central Hockey League (WCHL) out of Chicago. The team competes in Division 2. The team travels several weekends for games in Northern Illinois as well as hosts games at home. The WCHL team has a limited number of roster spots. An intent to play form is sent out the summer before the start of the season. Our Coach makes final roster decisions based on number of returning players, skill level, and team participation. WCHL players have a different financial commitment than other Club players.
